Web browsers in the iPhone vs Windows Phone 7

The war in the smartphone market has been raging for a long time and even more since Apple introduced the iPhone. The iPhone revved up the competition a few notches with competitors concentrating on bridging the chasm between their devices and the iPhone. It can even be said that they have succeeded to quite an enormous extent. The iOS on the iPhone is something that makes the iPhone stand out and among other things; the web browsing on the iOS is a showcase of the device. The Windows Phone 7 has emerged as a close competitor to the iOS more so in terms of the web browsing experience.

The previous Windows Mobile 6.x used the Pocket IE which painstakingly ensured that we would not go running back to browsing on the 6.x any time soon. Windows Phone 7 introduces the Internet Explorer Mobile 7 which is modeled on the Internet Explorer 9 and improves upon its predecessor in leaps and bounds. The Apple iPhone features the Safari web browser and is quite impressive in terms of performance and speed. Both of the browsers are good enough to hold their own in any fight but as with any competing products, they will always be seen as how well one performs against the other.

Windows Phone 7 Browser – Internet Explorer Mobile 7

The Internet Explorer Mobile 7, as mentioned earlier, is significantly more improved than the previous Pocket IE. Multi-tabbed browsing has been tuned to make it an enjoyable experience and not make browsing on a phone feel like a handicap. The new browser multitasks efficiently allowing us to load multiple tabs at the same time although there is no close all tabs option, an essential feature while wrapping up browsing. But the most impressive feature on the IE Mobile might be its speed. The loading time on the pages are seriously fast and this goes for when even webpages loaded with content are opened. The pages are zoomed on pinching and screen rotation is present although it is basically in its infancy. The interface to the browser screen navigation is outrageously smooth and makes the browsing experience on the IE Mobile a highly enjoyable experience.

Apple Safari Browser

Apple’s Safari web browser on the iOS is a standard in itself and after the introduction of the iPhone 4 it has improved significantly compared to the iPhone 3GS. The features on the Safari on iPhone 3GS were the usual tabbed browsing, pinch to zoom and the like. The iPhone 4 improved upon it by decreasing load times and removing problems with the 3GS such as a bit of checker boarding when pages with heavy content were scrolled down. All in the entire Safari web browser is an undeniable treat to iPhone users.

Conclusion

As anyone reading the above descriptions might have deduced there are no enormous chasms between the 2 web browsers. One might be that the Safari supports HTML5 while the Internet Explorer Mobile 7 does not provide HTML5 or Flash. But IE Mobile is still not a complete software and IE Mobile 9 releasing soon is set to add HTML5 support. Other than that, as with any competition, the browsers in terms of performance, speed, features and interface are neck and neck and this is one contest which is too close to call.
