Wat was wrong with my feeds?

Some visitors complained that they were not able to subscribe to my feeds. At first I thought it must be something to do with the hosting server. I became more worried when my feedburner email signatures started behaving funny.
I tried to subscribe to my feeds and was greeted with this error.
XML Parsing Error: XML or text declaration not at start of entity
<?xml version=”1.0″ encoding=”UTF-8″?><!– generator=”wordpress/2.0.5″ –>
At first I was clueless as to what is wrong because the feeds were working fine. A quick google search gave me different solutions.
1. Error in functions.php in theme : I switched over to this theme two days back so changed my theme to default AP theme and checked the feed but received the same error message. Now over to second solutions.
2. Blank lins in PHP file : The favicon update was completely out of my mind till I read this. I opened my index.php file and found that there were two empty lines.
I removed these lines and got my feeds back.
