There is nothing I hate more than having to pay more than other people for an identical product. If I discovered that the Apple iPad I bought is grossly inflated in price, I would be very disappointed. My disappointment would not just be about the people who sold the iPad at the wrong price but also at me for failing to spot the difference. I tend to set very high standards for myself when it comes to buying electronic products at the right price. I am aware of the price variations from shop to shop but believe that if I do my homework well, I will be able to shop at just about the right price. Anything below is a bonus but anything above is a massive irritant. In this article I continue with some of the tricks that I have learnt over the years in terms of ensuring that I do not pay above market price.
Effective and affordable shopping
1. I tend to buy within my own time. If I am looking for an iPad I will normally window shop on a very extensive basis before committing. This window shopping allows me to know the product in detail but also gives me an idea of what the iPad average price is. If I find that all over sudden the price of an iPad in a particular shop has fallen way below this average, I will try to expedite the purchase in order to make some savings. I know that I can live without an iPad so there is really no need to rush into things. The longer I take, the more likely it is that I will come to the right decision. My brother hates this kind of shopping and will always try to get me to buy the product quickly. However I have grown so adept that he has given up.
2. I maintain my own list of good suppliers of technology such as the iPad. I also let them know in subtle ways that I am not a loyal customer. If I believe that someone else has a better deal, I will abandon this one with immediate effect. There is nothing dishonest about this approach to buying an iPad. It is merely a way of keeping the customer on their toes in terms of getting you the best deal. You should aim to reach a situation whereby the merchant believes that your custom is not sentimental but is entirely based on their ability to get you a good deal.
3. Once I realize that I have made a mistake, I vow never to make the same mistake again. I remember one shop overcharged me for a computer and I never returned to them. The lady kept trying to entice me back but when I looked at her prices they were still way above market levels. I would take the exact same approach to the iPad. I am afraid it is a one strike rule with me when it comes to shopping.
